How to Build a Strong Personal Brand on LinkedIn
Imagine two professionals:
Sarah, a marketing expert with 10 years of experience, posts once in a while about her company’s achievements. Her LinkedIn profile is a basic résumé.
Jason, a marketing expert with the same experience, shares insights, industry trends, and personal stories about challenges and wins. His profile is a magnet for opportunities.
Guess who gets job offers, speaking gigs, and connections daily? Jason.
Here’s how you can be like Jason and build a strong personal brand on LinkedIn.
1. Share Your Expertise (Without Sounding Like a Textbook)
Wrong: "Marketing is important for brand growth."
Right: "Last month, I tested two email subject lines: one with emojis, one without. The emoji version got a 27% higher open rate. Small tweaks = big results. Have you tested this before?"
Example: A cybersecurity expert shares case studies on data breaches and how companies can avoid them.
2. Post Stories, Not Just Tips
People remember stories more than facts.
Instead of saying “Networking is important,” share a story about how a random LinkedIn connection led to a dream job.
Instead of saying “Consistency matters,” share how posting twice a week for six months landed you inbound leads.
3. Optimize Your Profile (Because First Impressions Matter)
Profile Photo: Clear, professional, approachable. No blurry selfies.
Headline: More than just your job title. Example:
"Software Engineer at XYZ" → "Building Scalable AI Solutions | Speaker | Tech Enthusiast"
About Section: Tell a compelling story about your journey, values, and expertise.
4. Engage With Others (Because No One Likes a One-Way Conversation)
Comment on posts with meaningful insights.
Send personalized connection requests (not just “Hi, let’s connect”).
Start conversations in DMs by adding value first, not pitching immediately.
Example: A recruiter comments on job-search-related posts, shares hiring tips, and gets inbound requests from candidates.
5. Be Consistent (Even If You Feel No One Is Watching)
Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a LinkedIn personal brand.
Post two to three times a week.
Experiment with formats (polls, carousels, personal stories).
Track what works and double down on it.
Your LinkedIn presence is like a digital handshake. Make it strong, valuable, and unforgettable.
What’s one thing you’ll implement today?
